Lead Visual Designer

Craig Walker is looking for a Lead Visual Designer to guide interdisciplinary teams in the delivery of projects, as well as to elevate the role of visual design in our industry. The job will involve helping clients understand their business from a new perspective and leading designers through the complexity to simple and beautiful design outcomes.

CWR001, Craig Walker — Visual design, created with a specific visual voice and style, did the heavy lifting in selling the paradigm shifts in design explored in our first infrequent publication of essays by design leaders and thinkers.

Future Post Office, Australia Post — To distill the findings from an extensive research project, we developed a publication that clearly communicated the complex issues impacting real Australians and allowed Australia Post to visualise an alternative future state.

With many years of experience leading multiple projects and teams, you are passionate about planning and structuring projects to drive the best outcomes and to play to the strengths of the team. You lead projects by challenging, critiquing and fostering talent, while building long lasting client relationships.

What you’ll bring

  • The ability to create programs of work around client problems, bringing together (or bringing in) and leading a team with the strengths and skills necessary to execute dynamic solutions.
  • An ease and a knack for presenting work to clients, as well as the ability to provide the space and guidance for others to lead a presentation.
  • Experience in developing and telling a story that resonates with the key people in an audience, and the ability to read a room and adjust your delivery as necessary.
  • The drive to help a team reach a shared goal and comfort with teaching, influencing and persuading clients and designers, alike.

Things in your tool belt

  • 12+ years’ experience in large organisations, agencies or consultancies, delivering visual design to solve strategic and tactical business problems
  • Solid experience in working with clients at a lead or senior level, helping them understand their business problems, and showing value that design can bring
  • Experience leading designers and teams with diverse backgrounds and expertise
  • A track record of helping designers develop their capabilities
  • Confidence to point to the parts of projects where you’ve applied your craft and where you’ve helped others apply theirs.
